Dear First Striders and Mentors,
It looks like we won't be meeting weekly for First Strides NMB Spring for awhile. The following City of NMB Emergency states:
CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS EMERGENCY ORDINANCE AND DECLARATION
During their regularly scheduled March 16, 7:00 p.m. meeting, City Council members adopted an emergency ordinance and an emergency declaration.
Just as the City adopts emergency ordinances and declarations for hurricanes, the ordinance and declaration position the City to be able to respond to COVID-19 related issues as they may arise locally. They also position the City to qualify for any state and federal reimbursements to help reduce the impact that COVID-19 related expenditures may have on the City's budget.
It appears that there are no specifics as to length of time or what this means about access to NMB Parks & Recreation facilities. Let's assume we won't be meeting for the next 2 weeks. I fear the program may be ended for this Spring ... BUT, this wording doesn't say that.
So, my advice is ... keep doing your homework 3 times a week for 2 excellent reasons:
1. It's "good" for you (fresh air, excercise, stress relief, improved immune system). Check with your doctor if you have questions.
2. We will count your 3 weekly (every other day) disciplined workouts as "good attendance" for that week ... in case the Spring 12-week workshop is allowed to continue. This makes it a recent innovation, either "remote" learning or a "virtual" workshop!
This is all new to race/workshop organizers as it is for the rest of the world. Please give me some time to research our options with the Grand Strand Running Club and the City of North Myrtle Beach for continuing, postponing, canceling, etc.
Thanks for your patience, Jane Serues
